Spare Sunflower Seeds
« on: March 29, 2007, 19:59:26 »
Hi, last year, I gathered the seeds from a sunflower I grew. The plant was grown from a giant single seed, but because I grew it in a pot, it only grew to about 3ft! Here is a picture of the sunflower about 3/4 weeks prior to flowering.

This was probably the tallest sunflower I have ever grown! If anyone would like a few seeds from this sunflower, please send me a PM or email. If you have anything to swap, anything would be nice! If you don't, don't worry about it, you can have them free! Thanks :)

Haha!  Kid, how many sunflower seeds do you need?  I gave you a bunch, and Barry gave you some.   Every message forum I go to you are asking for seeds.  You have 10 acres of land or something?  haha!  ::)  Barry and I gave you some of the best genetics in the world.

BTW, I'd be really careful about planting any small stuff with them, or they might cross and you may lose the size.

It's mainly because I needed some to make a wind break - I've just got an allotment, and it's a little bit breezy, so if I plant some of the sunflower seeds saddad sent me there, hopefully they will help. My dad is growng Barry's seeds, and I'm going to be growing yours  -we're having a competition :) Thanks :)

I have never known anyone need as many seeds as you do PFP, are you opening a business or something selling them seems rather strange to me, we are a very generous lot on here but do not like being taken for fools. So i would thank you for not treating the peeps on here like we are fools. You are on other sites asking for all sorts of seeds what have you got sodding KEW GARDENS out there. ???

You know Rosebud you are right, maybe we are going to see a new 'open to the public' garden, what with all the seeds he has had from here plus the countless seeds he has had from some of the other forums he subcribes to , the first bit I don't understand is when he will find the time to do it,especially as he is 'only13'  I wonder he finds time to go to school. The second bit I don't understand is why ask for them on one forum and then offer them  as as swaps on another.

Pete, I have asked you politely not to PM me, you are still doing so,please stop and please do not give my details to anyone else in your family to PM me either, the two messages I have had from your family members are not appropriate and I wish you to stop contacting me.

I feel I have made that abundately clear, please respect this.

Rosebud, ain't the gardening world a small one !!!

The seeds I am offering are purely spares - I don't need as many as people send me, so I might as well do something with the remaining ones I don't plant...will respect the no PM'ing thing...I have no intention to appear like this to others - I am beggining to become demoralised by these comments, so I would like to apologise for the way I appear - and promise that I will now not accept any more seeds...please don't see me in a negative light - if you could speak to people whom I see everyday, you would understand that I'm a good person. I still don't understand why you would not like me to PM you, but ah well...Hope this clears things up a bit :)

Well, it's all as clear as mud to me :(

I find someone asking for seeds over the THREE Forums I look at - and very specialised and expensive seeds -  not for you, laddie, the common-or-garden  :P carrot or leek or spring onion seeds - and getting a lot from each.

And you say it's their fault for sending you so many ???

And still you ask for more. Even today you've been asking someone for yet more ::) squash seeds....

You feel demoralised? How on earth do you think the people on these Forums might feel as they realize that you are playing this wide-reaching game with them?

For me, the great puzzle is why your parents, whom you tell me approve of all your dealings, also aid and abet you by willingly encouraging you to ask for and accepting freebie seeds given to you for them to plant themselves..

A reality check for you and your parents; seeds can be bought for 29p per packet from Lidl atm and if you look in the 'Bargains' section you (and they) will be directed to the Special Offers we come across from all the big stores.

In your blog you write that you are very clever at school but not clever at home...I can only endorse your words.

Pete just let it go, you know why I have asked for no PM, you know, I chose not to put this on an open forum which is what YOU  asked me to do,I have honoured that, now let it go, otherwise it will get uncomfortable.

If in fact it was your parents that  contacted me about you, and not you writing a letter claiming it was your parents, remember they contacted me.

If I get any more I will phone them ,they have invited contact from me  and I will do so.

You are trying  to put folks in a position that they have to take sides, but remember they only have one side of this story  yours...just let it go,at the moment only you and I know what the problem was.

You then  brought someone on site and gave  them my details  so they could PM me  that was wrong it's not what a member should do, I have reported that to Admin.

I honoured your request, now please honour mine, I am not the bad guy here, stop playing games with me or I will  have to come on to the open forum to discuss why.

Let it go. None of this would have gone any further if you had not started harrassing me after I said I wanted you to stop pming me. Let this be an end to it.

Haha!  You aren't kidding about expensive seed.  He's been in the giant vegetable community looking for handouts from giant growers.

This guy emails me on ebay.  Says he can't bid because he is only 13 and his parents won't let him use a credit card or something.  Growing giant vegetables is a great hobby for kids; so I wanted to give him a start and sent him a bunch of seeds for free.  I told him that I was sending him free seeds to Jala maize, as well as giant vegetable marrows, and several giant suflowers, which grows 20+ ft tall.  I sell this corn on ebay from generally $10 (approx. 5 british pounds)  to as much as $60 (approx. 30british pounds) per auction for 10 seeds.  I gave him a lot of seed to plants that take up a massive amount of space.

He's not just asking on allotment 4 all forums.  He's asking on other websites.
I caught him asking for even MORE Jala maize AFTER I told him that I sent it to him.

I go on bigpumpkins.com  and I find this:

Hi there, I saw there was someone selling Jala corn down a couple of threads, but I don't know if any one is still selling any Jala or other tall corn? I'm also keeping a look out for Diane's strain and Craven sunflowers, so if ya' know any one that has some that would be great.

Thanks!

Hi All,

Pete has asked me to delete his account, which is understandable.

I know after a member last year gathered seeds for free, and then started selling them on ebay after claiming to be only 13, suspicions where raised by Pete, however I (naive fool that I am), believe his 'background info'.

I'm not going to delete the account yet, it would be nice if we forgot the 'seed swapping' antics, and pete could become a normal low-profile member, after all I'm curious to see how giant the crops he gets are!

On the flip side, Pete if you are forgiven, don't ask for any moe seed ;)

I'll revisit this thread later today to see how everyone feels.

Dan

Not sure if Dan is expecting opinions to be posted here, but as he already knows, I support his decision. I hope this leads to us all being aghast at the pictures of monster vegetables ... :D

Well after thinking about it all day I had decided not to post as I don't intend to be drawn into taking sides but I have just got received another piece of information that is now worrying me which connects to something Dan has said and Rosebud thought might be a possibillity. Pete has recently opened an ebay account. As he has frequently said he has no money, it would seem he cannot buy anything  so it would appear he intends to be a seller.  I will leave other folks to ponder this but I now think things are leading to one end.  Sorry Dan you asked for imput,XX Jeannine

After having several chats with Pete, I'm convinced he really is a schoolboy. He knows too much about SATS and what the teachers say about them to be anything else! A fake would surely not have brought the subject up when I make no secret of being a teacher. Even if he is selling seed he's been given, this is schoolboy level stuff.
