Topic: Long and Thin or Short and Square

Hi,

I have enough recycled glass for a 400 square foot greenhouse.  :D
It will 'lean' against a south facing wall that runs the width of the garden, upto a wall that faces east. Two questions:-

What shape would provide the best for growing conditions, useability etc  40' * 10',
or  20' * 20'?

Should I keep the greenhouse away from the east wall to give it the greatest amount of sunshine (Sunshine?, in Kilmarnock  ???), and providing shading for seedlings, cuttings etc, or is it worth taking advantage of the natural shade provided by the wall from midday onwards.

I am trying to picture this?? will the wall cast a shadow in the greenhouse??

If so I would go for the 20' x 20' in the hope that one side would be out of the shadow.

Having said that; my first impulse would be for the  40' x 10' and use the brick wall for shelving.

Plus in the winter you could section off a short length of it and heat this section.

To sum up build it in a way that can get 'maximum light'
