Keeps me busy so I don't go stir crazy in the winter.
This is my Grandma's Cottage Quilt, hand appliqued, hand pieced and hand quilted . It went best in show a few years ago.
Is there anyone else out there who loves to quilt XX Jeannine

What gorgeous quilts! Gosh - I wish I was clever with a needle and cotton - sewing on a button is about my limit :-[ During the winter - (and all the other time I'm obliged to spend sitting about:( >:() I'm always crocheting or knitting. Anything from lacy doily-type-things to baby clothes/blankets.
<img src="http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/8485/pansydoilymain1xy0.jpg" border="0" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" />
No good reason for doing it except that I don't like doing nothing - and I suppose it keeps me out of mischief ;)

Both of those quilts are beautiful! :D I made a quilt last year for my daughter, it was my first attempt at quilting, photo below. I'm busy collecting scraps for the next project but it will be a long time before that is ready.
Grandma that is lovely :D, pansies are such cheery little flowers.
This is my next project...

Super stuff, keep it coming,I am so glad I started this post. I have tons of patterns by the way. I have recently started the Dear Jane Quilt , you will have to tap into the net to see it as I don't have a picture, all 4 inch blocks. I don't mind swapping fabric if anyone is interested.I love the pansy doily, I cannot crochet and really envy you that skill.
Leonnie for a first try your quilt is amazing, and look at what you are tackling for a second attempt, you are very brave. My first one was a complete disaster, it was a Star of Bethleham with half stars all around I paper pieced it with diamonds but made a mistake with the size,I did finish it but it is about ten feet square!! Quilting came to me very slowly, I was completely useless but determined, I had the patience but that was about it.
Lovely to see these.

Superb work ladies, i'm v envious at your skill! I can knit, crochet and cross stitch but haven't tried quilting yet - it looks addictive, is it easy to start? What sort of equipment do you need?
Keep up the good work all, & more pix please!

Tim, this is called a crazy quilt, very chic in the Victorian era, made of all sorts of bits and bobs including woolls, satins, cottons etc then often embellished with ribbons or fancy embroidery over the seams, There is quite a following in reproducing this design. It is truly beautiful. I do so hope that you have it's history in the form of a label with the quilt. My love of quilting started when I was child being wrapped in one quite similar which is alas no more. I can remember fondly feeling the fabrics and wondering how the little pieces went together. To this day I feel fabrics and know it came from the quilt I knew as a child. It was 40 years later when I started to make one. You are very blessed to have this. XX Jeannine

Thanks for that, Jeannine - never knew the title.
No, no 'provenance', except for the day-to-day diary she kept through all those troubled times. They were one of the few families to get through, twice, unscalped. I framed it for No1 Son in London.
Those were the days when they used to sweep up the gold dust from the Post Office floor to pay the rent!!

Message for Kitten.
Kitten if you start with something simple and follow a few basic rules it is not too difficult. 1/4 inch seams are a must or it doesn't go together.Buy good quality 100% cotton fabrics as they are easier to work with. Get a foot for your machine that has an accurate 1/4 inch marking on it. Start small, don't make the mistake I did.
There are many books on the market but a good one to get from the library if you can is called
The Quilters Ultimate Visual Guide.
It has almost everything you might want .
Invest in a good quilters ruler, a cutting mat and a rotary cutter.
Cutting with scissors is time consuming and not too accurate.
Look at Creative Grids
www.creativegrids.com
it is a UK company that has most supplies other than fabric.
There are tons of sites with other stuff, I have such a big stash of stuff now but I buy quite alot from the US simply because there are no quilting shops in my area so mail order is a good choice, and frankly it is cheaper too.
If you just like to look at stuff go to Keepsake Quilting at
www.keepsakequilting.com
they will send you a free catalogue which is super. There are many in the UK too but I have dealt with this company for years.
If I can help you in any way at all please contact me, I love to start someone off!!
I can send you some patterns to have a play with.
XX Jeannine
PS Is it addictive............................YES.
