Would this be too hot?
« on: March 20, 2007, 09:25:56 »
I've got an old Rayburn cooker in my back yard (full working order!)

I'm thinking of converting my entire back yard into one HUGE greenhouse and using the Rayburn to heat it. Anyone have any advice on this? My one concern is that it would be too hot ... or am I being daft  ::)

1. How huge??.
2. Would you use the boiler for radiators?
3. Growing what?
4. Our 20x15x7' kitchen with AGA would never be too hot for plants.
BUT.................
6. Any glassed area can be too hot without a heater.

Hi Tim!

1. 5m x 6m .. huge by my standards  ;D

2. Dunno - not thought about it. Any advice welcome!

3. Starting off seedlings, aubergines, peppers, vines and possibly melons

4. But whaaaat??? Tell me tell me  ;D

5. What happened to no.5!

6. Wouldn't want to frazzle anything - obviously would have ventilation etc.

Thanks Tim  :)

I've managed to frazzle quite a few seedlings this year just on the windowsill when the sun has been hot, even when it's cold outside!

1. Same as ours, -ish!
2. It would become a conservatory? Ask EJ, amongst others. Don't know about a Rayburn, but an AGA in normal use costs £1.75 per day. It could be run on 'idle'.
3. Starting off?. Far too big. To heat the whole thing to 75-80F would be V costly. So, Exotics perhaps? Again - Emma.
4. Gets too hot for us on the 2 days of Summer!!
5. You were awake??
6. You would need easy come easy go shading as well. Even with 24 vents AND shading, we have a job to keep our big greenhouse down to the besr temperature.
