Tree paeoni.
« on: March 13, 2007, 08:30:54 »
Hello :),

I planted some tree paeoni seeds last spring. I just checked them and they have 2 inch shoots. There are about 10 seedlings in a  8 inch pot. Does anyone know when I should put them in their own pots? Dont want to risk it in the cold , but dont want to damage them by them being pot bound together.

Thanks

cj :)

I'm in the same situation; I've got one or two still to come up, I hope, so I'm going to leave them for a couple of weeks yet, then pot them up.

it depends some are later starters then others.

I have one early one mid term and one late flowering variaty and the late flowering one has not woken up yet.

Do you know what type it is?

Graceland, the seeds need a [eriod of cold before they will germnate. Even the ones in a cold greenhouse may not have been cold enough for long enough. If the seeds have not rotted away, then put the whole container in the Salad compartment of your fridge for a month. It might trigger them into growth.
Gardening is the great leveller.

Best thing to do with paeony seed is just leave it out in a pot and wait. mine produced roots early last autumn, sat through the winter, and produced shoots in the last few weeks. They get there in their own good time.

If you want to be scientific, it's Paeonia.
