why are some threads widescreen?
« on: March 02, 2007, 12:14:15 »
I feel embarrassed asking this as I,m sure it must be basic computing but I,d love to know why some threads are so wide that I have to scroll from side to side to read them. I confess I sometimes don,t bother as its a hassle.
margaret :-[ ps I,m sure I can,t be the only one with this problem or am I? :-[

The widescreen effect is usually/probably caused by someone posting on the thread, a photgraph that is too big for the screen.

It has the effect of making the whole thread as wide as the photograph, and all previous/future entries expand to this width.
Grow your own and enjoy the fruits of your labours,
Regards Alan.

I don't think it has anything to do with photos, as I've found the same problem with all text posts. I have to change screen resolution to the next highest to get everything on screen without scrolling.

On one website that I manage, I put most things on in .pdf files. I format the page to have two columns, which allows the viewer to enlarge the text to view a column width at screen width. Some of our viewers find difficulty in reading text on most websites. Photos can be enlarged 300-400% without losing definition, incredible.

It is caused by either photos or very long text without a space, which would normally be a web address.

When I see them I try to edit them down.

Oh , I feel so clever now, I have just learned to put pictures on. I added one last night to a thread that had run to 2 pages and it caused the screen to widescreen,I didn't know how to fix it but am pretty sure I caused the problem XX Jeannine
