Cherry Tree.. advice needed please
« on: February 28, 2007, 13:33:19 »
My sister-in-law in Kent has asked me if my friends on A4A can advise on the following.

She has a 6ft Cherry tree (Prunus Avium...Stella) which she has planted in a large container, 120litres of John Innes outdoor planting compost. Would top dressing every year be sufficient or should she feed it throughout the year, if so what should she feed it with? Hope you can help.
Lorna.

sorry, lorna, we had our cherry in a pot last year, we got quite a good crop off it but we've put it in the ground this year..fed it with some potash (top dressed in spring)..this year, it's in ground manured with well rotted stuff and leaves..can't remember how big the pot was but it sounds about right and john innes is a good compost  :)

cheers manic. Chris has a very small garden and anything she grows is either in pots or baskets hence the container.

just remind her about covering it or the birds'll get the crop before she does..lovely tasting fruit as well  :)
