Help - allotments in SE London -
« on: February 07, 2007, 14:39:29 »
Hi,

Does anyone know of anyway I can find out where the local non-council allotments are in my area?  The council has a 3-5 year waiting list and would like to see if there is any private run ones.  The council suggested network rail - but they have said they don't keep a record as such as they lease the land to people who can do to some extent what they like on it...

I live in SE14 if that helps.

All suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You can look at other councils. I'm in Lewisham council too (I think you're in New Cross?) but they recommend nearby councils so I called Greenwich. I found a plot on an Eltham allotment and didn't have to wait. :) They may still have spaces at mine (It's Middle Park Avenue) but it's VERY overgrown so you need to be prepared for a lot of digging and chopping down woods of bramble. You may find a few similar sites if you're okay with the initial work. Greenwich had some other spots available but not near enough to me as I don't drive. Here's Lewisham's allotment page which has a link to other nearby councils: http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/LeisureAndCulture/ParksAndRecreation/Allotments.htm

Hope that helps!
Tina.

Our site is at Beckenham and we have a few vacancies. We run our own site and have many people who do not live in the Bromley Borough.

e-mail me at jamanye@aol.com if interested.
