Carex Pendula for swaps
« on: February 05, 2007, 21:21:14 »
Hiya all  :P
I have 5 established Carex plants (about 18 months old) in 2 litre pots. Couldn't post out due to weight and size of plants, but would love to swap them as I have far more than I need and a large one in my border! Any members near me would be welcome to come and pick up a plant for swaps with any other plant than a Carex!  :D
Would love anything which would add colour to the garden and ideally perennial!
Thanks

Brief description of plant .....

Carex Pendula
Graceful evergreen plant. Grows in a large clump and can reach a height of 3-5ft overtime. Forms neat clumps and is well suited for damp and shady areas where little else will grow. However will grow in sunny spots ideally too. In early summer drooping, cat's tail-like, russet-coloured spikes of flowers up to 6 ins long hang like earrings. Dried, they should prove ideal material for flower arrangements.

Hi DP,
Woud that mean taking out of pots and shaking off all the soil? Sorry but never posted alive plants before!  :P
Wouldn't the plant die? As mine are happily growing away in largish pots and they are very well established so lots of leaves etc  ::)

;D What ya do is shake off the soil and then blast em with water to get it off the roots and makes it cheaper to post! ;D This time of the year most plants are pretty dormant so hopefully wont suffer too much, the other thing you can try is to cut back the leaves to about a 1/2. (they usually sprout back)
I am a true believer in they have 2 choices! And most live. ;D
What sort of swap are you after?
I have a Sarah Bernhart Peony if you are interested?(sp might be wrong!)

Ok DP, will give it a go. I'll send you one and see what happens! I'd love a peony, is it growing or is it a tuber root thing? Absolutley love peonies, I call them roses without the thorns!  :P
I'll PM you my address, please PM me yours.
If this works I guess I could post out the carex 'bare rooted'? Any other takers? Am only interested in bulbs, corms, or established plants please, no seeds  :D
