If there's space within a school grounds, it can be beneficial to the kids to see plants actually growing, and get some idea of where food actually comes form. My concern with this is that too many schools have already lost out, with playing fields being sold off for building land, and this would put even more pressure on what remains. Some schools do have more land than they strictly need, but they're mainly in areas where alternative sites could probably be found.
