Alternative to glass in greenhouse?
« on: January 27, 2007, 20:54:23 »
Hiya,

I purchased a greenhouse last Summer from eBay :)

However, we have come to the realisation that where it is it is going to keep on getting vandalised (youths have smashed the whole of the roof in by dropping rocks/stones on to it :(

So, determined not to give up on this .... what can we use instead of glass (ie. plastic) and where can we get it from ???

The greenhouse is 6' x 4' ....

Thanks in advance

Z

Our allotments used to back onto a block of flats (now demolished!) and apparently vandals used to throw bricks from there to break the greenhouses.

A few of the people with greenhouses near to the part of the site bordering the flats have built wooden shells around their greenhouses, and covered them in chicken wire (either entirely, or just the roof).

Might be an idea?

I'm going to use that principle of wire, making screens, for my greenhouse this summer. I'd thought of growing peas/sweet peas up them to make 'living shading'. But after these gales I'm thinking of putting them back for the winter as storm shields too. 8)
