Just like a Christmas card!
« on: September 16, 2003, 01:56:34 »
Working all alone on the new plot this morning, knee deep in an early mist, and a wee robin shot out of nowhere and landed on my foot!  (well my boot clad foot).  He (well could have been a she) spent the whole morning with me, hopping around and landing on me!  I stopped to pour myself a coffee from my flask, and when I looked around, the little fella was sitting on the handle of my fork.....just like a scene from a Chrissy card!  Cute now.....but I shall be shooing him away come spring when I am seed sowing! ;D

Hi Emmajane, they're great company when you are gardening aren't they ?
We have one in our garden and I'm sure he knows cos the minute you start weeding or digging he materialises from seemingly no-where!
Mind you we got rewarded last year as they used my Robin nest box that is buried in the Cotoneaster,he got really brave then coming right up to us and allmost asking me to feed him !!
If you can get hold of some mealworms to throw to him next spring perhaps he will leave your seeds alone.

Best wishes Ruth.

did you know that a robin will only eat enough to see them through the night and be able to sing in the morning.
As for starlings they eat you out of house and home but what fun to see young ones squabbling.

I know!  In spring we have starlings nesting in our roof and when the babes leave the nest they come back into the garden for 'lunch'.  It really is like watching a load of kids at playgroup fighting for that last jelly baby!  ;D
