« on: January 04, 2007, 19:41:26 »
Couldn't find a reference to 2007 days yet, though I'm sure they have been mentioned.

I'm making my first visit to HDRA Ryton on 28th Jan

Anyone else??!!

I posted about it earlier... I'm going on the Sat. 27th Members day, if you want something specific get there as early as you can... some varieties sell out by 11:00am.  I've never been on the Sunday but I'm sure they hold stocks back for the second day...

There was a recent thread this past week reference spud days. On a spud thread, someone posted a link to potato days with dates on them. Listed about 20 venues and dates around the country
Cant remember which though. Sorry.

I was tempted by the offer too Louise... but if 20p a tuber that is only £4 and I don't want both varieties... have muck rather than chems and have some sacks!

 ;D

Ryton does split the stock roughly 50-50 between the 2 days but does aim to sell out, as do almost all of the one or two day events.

The garden centres have large stocks to cover the sales period (Jan - Mar) but don't tend to have specialist advice on hand

The Whitchurch Days http://thewhitchurchweb.org/potatoday offer the advantages of both. The stock comes from a large garden centre and the aim is NOT to sell out and disappoint visitors - unfortunately we do have the odd "run" on one or 2 varieties each year which means that we do run out towards the end of a day but this is the exception and there are more other varieties around (~150) to provide alternatives. We do completely restock for the Sunday an sell around 15 tonnes each year (that's several tubers!)

- end of advert!!!

Good Advert Phil...
Fairly sure they were 15p a tuber last year Loiuse and you could buy as few or as many as you wanted... Usually by Dozen of each, 1) because I never really went metric and 2) that's enough to stand in an eggbox for chitting!

I'll probably go to this, too.  I'm sure my 5 year old will be delighted to go and visit the owls at Stonham Barns.

The RHS is having some kind of 'grow your own veg day' event at its various gardens that day, too (Feb 10), to tie in with the tv series. Free entry, plus various talks, demos, giveaways etc.
