Whinge grumble - health question ....
« on: December 16, 2006, 14:00:59 »
Bit moany and not very festive I know, but I was wondering if anybody here has ever had a steroid injection before?

Couple of weeks back I tore a ligament in my shoulder and it doesn't seem to be getting any better.  Infact these past 2-3 days it's been worse than ever.

Yesterday, my doc gave me a steroid injection and since then my shoulder has been giving me hell.  He did tell me to do as little as possible with it for the next few days because of the injection so I'm wondering - is it supposed to hurt like b*ggery after such a jab?

Yellow: I've had a couple of steroid injections in my elbow (tennis elbow ... or 'digger's elbow'!) It hurts like b***ery for a few days - the injection goes straight into the muscle/joint so the trauma/pain is as much to do with that as the original condition. Rest it. It gets better in about a week.

... or 'digger's elbow'

Think I have digger's body then ...  :D

I have not had steriod injections myself, but a friend had, and reported the same - it felt worse before it improved ...

Hi Petals I had a curterzone in my shoulder years ago I know its not the same but it hurt like hell afterwards, you really do have to do nothing keep it still. In bed was the hardest  because you keep moving to get comfortable but it did take the whole weekend to recover. GWS

The last time I had a steroid injection I screamed, cried, sweated and nearly passed out. And what did the doc say? "Didn't hurt me as much as it hurt you"

Hmmmmm ... before I whacked him over the head with my handbag (full of bricks) I gently told him to ...........

Thank you all for your quick responses.  I guess a day or more and it should start to feel better.

I am trying to use it as little as possible but anybody who has ever had a shoulder injury knows just how hard that can be!

Still, who's going to argue at having to rest and watch everybody else doing the work?  ;D

Sam Hope you are soon without pain. Did the Doctor say if you have to abstain?

Lorna, no, his advice was not to lift the turkey out of the oven (I said no danger of that, I will be round my mummys) and my boobs are too big and they couldn't possibly be helping my shoulder.  I told him that unfortunately I didn't have an immediate remedy for that so could I have some painkillers instead.

Sorry to hear about the pain. I suggest stout undergarments and lots of rest!

Make two slings one for your shoulder and one for your boobs, you'll find the elevation sling is the better one to use. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :-*

Tsk!  My garden is a natural garden as you well know.  I let my bushes, flowers, weeds, grass etc grow wild and natural and have done so for several years.   The last time I worked on it I found a television crew in there making a documentary about urban jungles.

My mum's had numerous steroid injections in her shoulder.

They work for about 5 mins so she says.

Steroid injections that go between joints of the body such as elbow, shoulder etc usually are extremley painful at the time of impact. They can be tender for up to 48hrs. Downside is that some people, once they have had the first is that they may need recurring steroid injections throughout their life. Not all, but some. Sorry to disapoint and be the bearer of bad news at chrimbo.  ;D ;D ;D
