sprouting carrots
« on: November 26, 2006, 20:33:45 »
checked on my carrots I have storing in a box in the shed (covered in old compost from a grow bag)

They have started sprouting at the top (I did remove all the leaves before I stored them) - they are still firm, but is this a bad sign or to be expected...... am a first timer to growing enough carrots to be able to store some!

Sounds like they're too warm, the leaves will take moisture from the roots & they could go soft

probably a bit of a combination - nothing I can do about the tempurature - the shed is supposedly the coolest place we have! just need winter to arrive! (never thought I would wish for that!)
