Whew! Thanks for this thread. I'm doing flowers for the 1st time next year & bought sweet peas to cover 2 pergolas I bought cheapo at Wilk's sale 8) I'd best get them sown today then? So can I sow them now in the unheated greenhouse or start them off indoors in a bit of heat til they've germinated?

I started mine in a cold greenhouse.One tip I got from a book on seeds was to rub them in fine sandpaper rather than chipping them,and soak over night in warm water- though some say not to soak! I did and germination was nearly 100 %. germination took about a week but it does say it can take up to 14 days.

Thanks maggie, I've looked at the packs & I'll be soaking them tonight & sowing tomorrow then. 8) Can't do the fine sandpaper trick cos I ain't got none....

I used to chit but don't anymore. To be honest it didn't seem to make that much difference. See how you go Allishka
