Grass clippings -- good suggestions?
« on: November 10, 2006, 21:33:13 »
Hi!

Just been given a couple of bin bags of wet November-ish lawn clippings and wondered what best use to put them to.

(Probably another couple or so bags still to come in the next few days -- we're in the process of doing a tidy-up of my ma's garden, ready for winter.)

So... any good suggestions?

If you have other stuff to mix them with get them in the compost heap...

shake over growing areas - not too thick, 2" max, will keep weeds down :)

we've mixed them with shredded leaves and spread them on the beds in the poly, then covered with cardboard for winter, last year got a lovely crop of worms with the same method  :)

Spread them over your beds, they're really good.

Looks like it's a majority vote for grassy bed-coverings then --  thanks, guys!

triff,

I'd thought that grass on its own would go slimey & horrible over the beds, but since reading here from Robert & SS that's it's really good, cutting a client's lawns been a positive joy (and unexpected bomus) for me.....this is a great tip. 8)

You need several inches of grass before it goes stodgy. A couple of inches won't cause any problems at all.

This is a good tip cos the paths on our new lottie are grass so now i know what to do with all the leftovers when we mow them!
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened
