Wallflowers
« on: October 23, 2006, 23:48:47 »
I just saw last weeks ep of GW and i really like the idea of getting a mass sowing of wallflowers in my beds for spring.

Where do you normally by them? i haven't seen them in garden centres i don't think.....not B&Q anyway.

are they cheap? as carol seemed to be sowing a lot of them.....

As Brassicas we start them off in cells in Spring, bed them out to grow on in the Spring cabbage space then plant them where we want them in late August/ea Sept.. you can save yourself the hassle and buy plants but might be a bit late for this year...

We're very lucky around here.  Have a small nursery just up the road and you just order your wallflowers and stocks and they pull them when you are ready to collect.  Had some beauties!  Must admit 'though, have always avoided those in my local garden centres - don't really trust them and also, they don't tend to advertise which varieties they are.

Sorry, Wahaj, down in Kent, not much use to you.  There may be some nurseries near you.  Local allotmenteers may know :)

oh yea...i mean i went to the biggest garden centre round here...bosworths in burton latimer....and they had really sorry looking bunches. i think it was five for £1.50...but they looked pretty dead...with barely any roots....

but then at the local market they had about 10 for a pound that looked much happier. neither had them labelled.
