Cucumbers - you may remember.........
« on: November 09, 2006, 17:17:59 »
Trying for continuity - & as back-up in case the RSM took over - we put 4 more plants in on 12 August.

They finished yesterday - despite still having babies on - having given a further 91 cus. Passandra - minis.

I pulled up the last lemon cucumber plant up on Monday and there were loads of babies on the vine.  That one plant provided us with more cucumbers than this family could manage!  Glad to say old Dehlias recipe came in handy.  We also grew the mini whites but a lot of those were incredibly sour.  Will stick to the lemons next year.

Can you grow crystal apple cucumbers outdoors? I tried growing marketmore this year but it was an total failure.

I kept mine cosy to start with, but they scrambled out of the coldframe and rampaged over a huge area producing more fruits that we could eat!

Lemon cus - aren't they a bit prickly, Emma? Not the grab & devour type?

Do you eat them like an apple?

just picked a couple today thought we had picked the last a couple of weeks back but the babies keep growing they have grown in amongst the tomatillos, which are shaeltering them from the cold so have left them, they are an indoor variety as well and are growing out side due to lack of space (the greenhouse ones haven't produced anything for weeks.

Sorry Tim, only just spotted this.  They do get prickly as they get bigger, but if you rub them the prickles rub off and yes, us grown ups eat them like apples.  Number one daughter with her mile long list of allergies is very sensitive to cucumber skin and it brings her up in huge hives, so she has hers peeled, then eats it like an apple.
