Small melon success!
« on: September 10, 2006, 13:45:13 »
I'm still smiling :D  Have just eaten my first home grown melon (Canteloupe) it was smallish but oh so sweet!  I'd worried for so long about how to know it was ready but it just came away from the stalk so that was it - now I've only it's two siblings - one of which is proper canteloupe size already..

Incidentally they were grown in a cold frame in a mixture of compost and straw in which I had tried unsuccessfully to grow mushroom spawn.  I jsut covered it in black weed suppressant membrane and planted the melon plants into it - actually put in 4 plants and took off  all but 4 of the baby melons but one rotted anyway.
Equality isn't everyone being the same, equality is recognising that being different is normal.
