Topic: My plot so far.................

Hello everyone,
I've had my plot for 1 week and I'm just posting some pic's of my efforts so far:

In the beginning:



And after Sunday, Monday and a couple of hours yesterday it now looks like this:



And I have a shed and compost bins :







But need to do some covering quick at the back:



I feel quite proud of myself.

Wow! well done! That's a lot for one week.

I've had mine a month and it isn't quite so far yet. I have the same setup for my recycling bins though I plan on adding doors and eventually a lid to keep all the snow out. The shed is nice to have, lucky you!

I should think you ARE feeling pleased with yourself GF! :o You've certainly taken the soil and weeds firmly in hand - but also have the essentials bits of kit - bins (so beautifully built!) so you can recycle those weeds (and hopefully leftovers from your produce soon!) and shed (so professional!) so you can duck in out of the rain. I wish a week on my plot made such an astonishing difference! ;)

it's looking great, and the soil looks in great condition. you wont be long in filling it up with loads of lovely edibles.  well done.

Well done is an understatement!!  The soil looks great, I had to have a peep at profile to see where you are. The soil looks the same as the soil in the Fens.
Did you manage all that on your own? Or did you have a little army of The Growing Family helping? Great pics, thanks for sharing .

Thank you all for your kind words.

Hubby built the shed for me but everything else is down to me.
The children want to help with the digging but the ground is full of glass.
So I've promised them a little plot each to grow whatever they wish.
Next been back since Tuesday, the weather ::)
Can't wait to go back and get stuck in!
I do think I've been very lucky with this plot compared to some I've seen.
The soil looks great towards the front of the allotment but at the back it is very sandy.
Whats the best plan of action with sandy ground?

SS I plan to grow fruit in the area where its sandy. Will the fruit grow ok there? Of course i will mulch and mulch so any tips on that, I believe your the lady to ask ;)  ;D

Triffid, I could quite happily live at the allotment LOL.

good luck GF, hope one of the fruit experts chips in here ::) I've not grown fruit before but am gonna branch out into sea buckthorn and guzgogs this winter :o so we'll both be embarking on something new! What fruit are you planning to grow?

how sandy is sandy? - if you are thinking of growing fruit trees it might mean staking is essential as the roots will rock around in sandy soil - when I see sandy soil I think carrots, more carrots and even more carrots  ;D

continue to add lots of manure and such like if the balance of the soil isn't quite right

Apparently the River Mersey used to flow over where the allotments are now. Still there but a bit smaller. So thats why we have sandy soil.
