A hole through my cucumber...
« on: August 11, 2006, 11:06:08 »
I can't work out who would do this. A small hole, about 1cm diameter, right through my first ever Crystal Lemon. Lots of tiny marks inside it but can't tell if it's tooth or beak shaped.

Has anyone heard of birds pecking through cue's?

Oh, it was fine lastnight & like this today so my thoughts are too quick for slugs.

Any "most likely" guesses appreciated!

Ollie

Could be rodent damage, but I'm not sure.

I've never had any damage on my CA inside or out... possibly some peck or slug damage to break the skin then exploited by woodlice? Far too small and neat for rodents from your description.

Thanks for the replies Robert & dad. I decided to put down some mouse bait & some of it has been taken... fast acting stuff although I still feel guilty. If they waited for the glut & then took one or two whole ones, you wouldn't mind.

I'm not even sure it'll fix the problem but I'm not going to use pesticides in case it's woodies & am pretty sure it's not the birds.
