Peacock butterfly
« on: July 23, 2006, 12:42:24 »
Apologies for the quality of the picture (it was about 7 foot up and breezy!) but I just had to share the excitement of this visitor this morning.  I haven't seen a peacock butterfly for years in these parts.  G x

I don't normally see many but there's a buddleia down the lane from my plot which has consistently had half a dozen on it at a time recently. I went down meaning to photogrph them yesterday, and of course by the time I got there there was a thunderstorm in the distance and they'd disappeared.

Very pretty too. Cleaned it up a bit for you, hope you do not mind!

Funny you should mention that, Georgie - I had just come in with these.

Infuriating how the Red Admirals always shut up as they land. So difficult to catch. Like the brownie.  A fairly bashed example of an Admiral too!!
The smell of buddleia is so nostalgic for me.

Thanks, Eric.  And Tim, those are super pics, so well captured.   ;D

It must have been the peacocks day today.  There were so many on the teasals  ( how do you spell it?) on my plot.  Haven't seen so many since I was a child.

Same here, and another thing I've noticed is that groundsel all over my plot is absolutely covered in cinnabar moth caterpillars.

At least they only eat groundsel?

They devour ragweed as well, but nothing we want to keep!
