Trailing varieties
« on: July 18, 2006, 15:10:59 »
Can anyone tell me why my "trailing" begonias and petunias don't trail  ::)
Spent a fortune on trailing begonia corms ( or what ever they are called) and all they do is climb ever upwards, same for the petunias.
What is going wrong?

I wish I knew! I bought two sorts of trailing petunia, some white and some purple - the purple ones are trailing across the ground like they're pretending to be squashes, but the white ones are very compact. I'm beginning to wonder if the labels were wrong...

Cheers,
Rob ;)

Years ago I suffered the same problem so I experimented and I find if you put 'tallish' plants in the bottom layer (see picture 1) they will naturally form a 'U' shape and grow upwards (see picture 2) and add width to your basket.

Newly planted;

Approx 5-6 weeks later

Beautiful TeeGee, mine are nowhere as pretty as yours. The begonias are stunning, but not "trailing" which is what peeves me
