Thanks for the info about the airlocks Mark. Don't buy spring water - mine's from the tap :D Know someone who makes wine, so I'm going to ask if she's any spare demijohns to loan me, or even one - make a gallon? That sound OK?

Hi All,

I have 2 gallons of turbo cider on the go using 9 litres of Tesco Value apple juice and one jar Tesco Value Honey and a sachet of Gervin No 1 Yeast.  Started brewing on 20/7, looks like fermentation is almost over 25/7, will measure SG tonight, and have a little taster.  Will let you know how it goes….  :P :P :P

I have the chance to get a big crop of apples for free, I believe them to all be eaters (one is definitely Pink lady).  Does anyone know what makes a good cider apple?  Flavoursome and sweet I would think?

Regards,

DLM.

I believe cider apples are far more acid than you think, the word mouthpuckering comes to mind ...

Thanks Curry,

Any idea if I would just get a wishy washy brew from Pink Lady juice (ooh err), or if it will just not work at all?

Have ordered a book which I hope will tell me more, but I am impatient you know....

Regards,

DLM.

We picked some crab apples at the weekend, I hope to add these to the next brew to add more body and see how this adjusts the flavour. What ratio do you think i should use? I was thinking about 4 litres of tesco value to 0.5 litres of crab juice. Has anyone tried this?

There is no going back now Crash  ;)

If you like cask cider, then you will be wandering why you never brewed this before....

I put on another 18 litres last night.

D.

Topped the demi john up today and it's bubbling away nicely.  :)
