'Skeleton' Rose Leaves
« on: July 06, 2006, 19:53:16 »
Hi everyone,

I have discovered lots of tiny caterpillars on one of my roses.  They are varociuos eaters nad are striiping my rose leaves to the stem.

Any idea what these caterpillars are?

Hi Cat
know of four caterpillars that eat rose leaves vapourer moth, buff-tip moth, grey dagger moth and brown-tail moth.  VAPOURER MOTH is 25 mm long marked with yellow and red dots and lines.  BUFF-TIP MOTH 50 mm long yellow and black. GREY DAGGER MOTH clear yellow back flanked by red spots. BROWN-TAIL MOTH 40 mm long dark brown in colour.
All can be treated with a contact insecticide, be careful if removing vapourer and brown-tail moths  as both can cause skin irritation, hope this helps if you need more info let me know.
