I spotted a green woodpecker the other day, near the allotment; they're more birds of scrubland than the Greater Spotted, which is exclusively a woodland bird. I assume your garden't pretty close to a wood. I hear them drumming in a small patch of wood the other side of the lane, but don't see them unless I go looking.

WOW what fantastic pictures, he/shes a beauty.  I had one on my nuts for the second time this year last week, i was SO excited. I wish i had a camera with a decent zoom then i could share pics.

Wonderful pictures BS.  Just found out the other day that somebody has spotted a woodpecker at our allotment site.  Everyone is excited about it!  :) busy_lizzie

I must be very lucky. A Greater Spotted Woodpecker has been visiting one of my feeders every day for the past six months.
