Got the Lotty! kinda
« on: June 03, 2006, 17:07:27 »
Well  I've just been down to the lotty with my neighbour who seems to really want me to share with him. Which is OK but 3/4 of it is already planted and the other 1/4 isnt going to be ready until next year even with alot of hard work.

My neighbour is getting on and I think he likes the thought of getting some help and also the company aspect.

I helped weed some beds today- which was fun but i cant help thinking i want a bit of my own... but at the same time he can teach me alot, but then again he is doing things a little different to how i would. argghhh

So I've just got myself into a dilema.

Really thuogh there are plenty of lots available. And whilst i get my plot ready i could be helping him - i think LOL.

Oh and theres no water at these allotments, but there is a tractor which the guy takes over to keep the weeds etc down.

Many Congrats Olive! I was at the plot at 06.45 this morning to open the greenhouse door before I went to work, it's an amazing feeling to be there all on your own, just the birds and me. It's special. Getting emotional now, "My name is katy and I am obsessed with my allotment"

Enjoy! Really pleased for you!

 ;)

I got up there last night and another kind neighbour had strimmed the front path which was waist high in Weeds! So im taking him some eggs today!

I started digging last night as there is alot of rubble on the plot - i didnt get very far and i was knackered... I guess a bit each night and i will get there I suppose.  Its good well draining soil with loads of worms... and i've covered what i've dug with black membrane to keep the weeds from growing.

I'm really tempted to  cover the lot as its all plouged and only a few weeds here and there... but it will cost a fortune LOL.

My seed trays are coming up a treat but i really want to sow some seeds direct in the ground...if only i could dig it quicker!

Hi O.O.
Check this site out if you have now water on lottie,

http://www.gardeningbythemoon.com/calc.html

The moon controls the water levels on land and sea, so work out when the water level is at its highest and sow seeds and plant. Idea is work with mother nature and should save watering.
You could get a water butt and collect it from your shed roof.
When I started the more ground I cleared the plot holders were giveing me leeks cabbages etc and me growing loads at home.
Being one of three women plot holders the chaps realy looked after us bless them.
I still do more talking down there then digging ha ha.
