Hi there, I have been reading the boards for a while, lot's of great information on here :) Wondered if I could have some help with a problem in our garde We built some raised beds for my veggies earlier on this year as the soil is very heavy and clay like where we live. Both in our garden and in my raised bed everywhere we dig there are maggots. I have never seen so many! We do live on a farm, don't know if that would make things worse...
We have tried removing them by hand but there are just too many. I think they may be leatherjackets, they definitely have no legs. They were on our patio too hiding under the pots, tons of them. They are destroying my vegetables and seedings now i think. We found one hanging off a half eaten radish yesterday and one has even bitten my son! I have put the harmless slug killer down and part netted some of my plot, but damage is continuing, and it doesn't look like typical slug/snail damage. I can upload a picture probably, but they are a grey colour and headless Yuk!
