they DO have them, and they DO sell them.

was in there for beer and voddie tonight ( :P) and some happened to be sitting on a cart with broken cardboard boxes.  took me a while to find a nice young man to ask if they were being sold or disposed of ............ 8 for 99p ! so i got 16.

all you have to do is ask !  (i did ask if they regularly got rid of them and NYM said aye, they're usually out the back).

after sitting for a couple of hours in a traffic jam (some bloody main road into glasgow has collapsed) that cheered me up tonnes.

ok off to quaff the voddie !!!

 :P

Yes, this I can confirm and even exceed!!  Was in my local Morisons 2 weeks ago and decided to have a look for these famous buckets around the flower stand.  There, tucked behind the barrow stand thingy that has the flowers on it were lots of buckets, taped together into 12s with tape that had printed on it '8 for 99p'.  Now, either they had a glut and decided to give away 4 extra buckets in each set or someone on the fruit and veg section can't count!
I got 12 (buckets not sets, that would be going too far!), used them to plant my tomatoes, then went back for 12 more plus 12 for my mum
Result!!

RIGHT!

My Sunday Morning Sweep - Aldi, £ shop, Home Bargains, Wilkos, will now take me further afield to Morries. And if they DON'T have black buckets to sell me at a knock-down price, there will be war...a knock-down, blood spattering War amongst the flower bunches. Petals everywhere there will be....

btw KP....while I'm there I'll try to get the blue baskets you're using for your ring culture. My 'house is the same size as yours - 6x4 - how many fit along the length, please?

I buy my black buckets, and my blue plastic crates, from our local florist/fruiterer - it's not a fancy shop, but your normal/average fruit shop.  They sell them for 10p a go - so I suppose that makes mine 10 for a pound!  :)  Worth asking if you have a shop near you.

Ours also do some large white plastic boxes with slatted lids for 50p.  I have considered buying them, but then can't think what I would use them for.  :)

i had 5 side by side, now fearing overcrowding, i've turned them 90 degrees and have four end to end along one side with the 5th turning the corner.  i'm going to put a couple of courgettes into the blue boxes as well, and my cucumber (thanks weedbusta  ;D) and a couple of aubergines along the other side.

i am running out of space FAST !!!!  WHY did i not listen and get a bigger g/h ???   :P and i've got four growbags as well that need putting somewhere, with something in !!!!   ::)

i need to get the lilies out of there really, but they're so tall that one blast of the wind and they'll be snapped in bits.

i picked up another 5 blue boxes yesterday, promptly dropped them getting them out of the car, so that's one less corner i need to drill drainage holes in  :o.

once the voddie from last night has worn off i'll be out there ......... 8)

On checking MrsKP's pretty maids, the blue crates I am buying for 10p (just to prevent a rush to the fruit shop) are the mesh ones I have seen on a photo Tim posted.  Not the solid ones MrsKP has.

Though I think the white plastic ones for 50p would be eminently suitable for use in this fashion.  They're taller, and a bit narrower, but they'd do the job.

I visited morrisons just after mothers day and managed to get 30 black pots for 99p !  Obviously a good time to visit.

Alishka - I got some plastic tubs similar to MrsKP's from Wilkinsons - they were around 90p each.... unfortunately my store only had 6 so I'll have to pay another visit ...

i'd say in your 6x4 (i've got a 6 x 6 dontchaknow) 10 round the edges and you could get another 4 or 5 if you wanted to double row it, but then you'd be leaning over the first rowbreaking the tops off things to get to the back one  :o
