Mulching Tomatoes
« on: April 30, 2006, 16:54:57 »
Hi all

Has anybody tried using a mulch when growing tomatoes in large pots. I have never done this but thought it might be worth a try.
I was thinking of possibly using cardboard, black plastic, stone chipping or something similar. If you have tried this pls let me know if it helped keep the compost moist.

Cheers

Tony

In flat growbags I fold back the slit plastic to give cover. The slit allows watering.

I grow my Tomatoes outside in pots.  I use a good inch of washed grit as  mulch which not only helps stop evaporation but also adds weight, reduces weeds and deters slugs and snails.   ;D
