Topic: Would like frogs but are not allowed pond

Hi there,

We are not allowed a pond on our lot although there are several around us that have been put in anyhow. As I have small kids it wouldn't be a good idea anyway, but I was wondering how I could put in a small wetland habitat that would attract frogs from neighbouring plots who could then return to spawn in neighbouring ponds?

How would you keep a wetland area wet without it drying out to quick?

I just have 2 containers in an a fenced area so no kids can fall in...

Have a  2 gallon bucket sunk into ( or not) the ground you would be surprised at the wild life you would get. I have a marsh marigold in a bucket and last year frogs spawned in it and they were using the plant to get in and out even the babies.
Very child friendly and a great intoduction to wild life.

We have a plastic dustbin lid in our garden which we call our 'pond' ;D we get lots of insects drinking and birds bathing and drinking in it, I top it up every day with fresh water and have plants growing round it to soften the look,so maybe you could do this to attract frogs? :) /shades x

I've got a metal grid (old Council fencing) sitting on top of mine - and lots of things round it so it can't be seen (not allowed 'em either)
