help needed with squash and pumpin ID
« on: April 09, 2006, 20:22:59 »
I have a packet of mixed squash and pumpkin seed from Seeds of Italy and am trying to work out which seed is which :-\ ???.
The packet contains:

Marina of Chioggia
Padana
Long of Naples
Berrettina Piacentina
Quintale
Butternut Rugosa
Tromba d'Albenga
Sicilian Snakes
Custard White
Vegetable Spaghetti

I've arranged them into little piles of similar looking ones, but obviously I may have made an error because I only have 9 piles (there are 10 varieties).
I suspect 1 is Quintale, which is a giant pumpkin (though perhaps the smaller ones in pile 1 are a different variety of pumpkin?)
2 are quite distinctive: a bit rough and hairy.
4 are shaped like a tooth. I have a feeling this may be the Sicilian snakes?
The pile at the bottom right hand corner are the ones that didn't quite fit into any of the other piles.

I'm particularly interested in finding out which one is Marina di choggia.

Great photo and cataloguing dandelion! I'm no expert, but got my Franchi seeds out and they look like:
Berrettina No.1
Marina di Chioggia No.3
Butternut No.7
Good luck :D

that is a difficult one, I've got the Marina Di Chioggia and Padana, I'd agree the Marina di chioggia looks like number 3 as they're quite large flat seeds, the Padana ones are very similar but only slightly smaller, perhaps number 8? :-\

It's franchi's squash mix seeds, isn't it?
I planned to buy the packet but didn't in the end.

Good luck with it, I'm planning to buy the packet next year so I would like to refer to this thread then. :)
