Woodpeckers

Took this shot and then realised there was another one in the tree, but get them both in shot together, no way!

Woderful shot. I have one that I rarely see - the one time I did, he was hammering away at the stake supporting the bird table.... ;D

Great picture Eric.  one day  hope one will visit me long enough for a picture to be taken.

Have I ever asked you if you get the Nuthatch??   Now that is one bird I hope to see in my garden one day.

I have only seen one woodpecker in the garden and that was about a year ago.  I have put out a separate nut feeder at the border of my garden and the field, in the hope of attracting them.   It is away from my feeding station which the gold finches have comandeered.   I hear woodpeckers all the time as they fly around the Till Valley and think it is only a matter of time before they find the peanuts.

I must be lucky because a Greater Spotted Woodpecker visits a wire mesh feeder full of peanuts in the garden virtually every day and has done for several months.

Nice One!  Wish we could catch sight of the noisy blighter in the wood next door - even trying that imitating another woodpecker pecking thing to encourage him closer, still no joy
is it in the sale?

OOH what lovely photos.   :)  I am soo jealous.  I had one GSWoodpecker on the fat balls earlier this year  :) so i put out loads of extra fat ball feeders in the hope of enticing him/her back and the only thing it attracted was a RAT :o   So after spending the afternoon watching th acrobatics of this rat trying to get to the fat balls i went out and removed all of them. :'(  now i've no hope of him coming back :'(

Oh well i've plenty of other birds to keep watching. :)

Never seen our woodies eating the fat, they go for peanuts.

hi
Yeah, that was what i always thought, but mine was definately on the fat. I  don't normally bother with  nuts as they take so long to go down they go black.  But  I have put some out now and they are going down...slowly. The one thing that always goes for the fat is the long tailed tits so i'll have to put mine out again soon before they forget about me.

As you've seen, Eric, 'ours' go for the CJ fat blocks - but they have either peanuts or insects in them.

This thing from Countrywide has been a dismal failure - two weeks before anything looked at it, & now only the occcasional Tit visits.
