Toadspawn
« on: March 29, 2006, 23:32:45 »
Today I was delighted to watch a pair of toads mating and laying spawn around a grass in the pond. Toads do seem to spawn about 2weeks after frogs because the 10 clumps of frogspawn just begining to hatch. Just a pity newts don't lay in such a visible way. They appeared active in the same pond about 3 days ago.
At least the tadpoles will provide food for the dragon fly larvae and there should be a good emergence again this year.

Just popped out on this gorgeous day to see whats what in the pond and caught these two at it as well.
Take time to stop and smell the flowers.

Mimi,

good pic, not got toads in my pond just frogs, newts and dragonflies

Toadspawn,

I know what you mean about the dragonfly larvae eating all the tadpoles, I counted at least 10 dragonfly larvae in my pond last year, only a few tadpoles made it into frogs
