South facing raised beds, especially for jennym
« on: April 02, 2006, 14:42:25 »
My beds run east to west, and I plant my rows north-south.
After some discussion in the threads, am experimenting this year with tilting the soil in the beds so they face south (for some reason we thought this might be an advantage ::)) So I have started raking up the beds as I plant them so that they face south.

Comments welcome - especially, what (if anything) would enjoy growing up the resulting 'cliff' on the north facing side of the bed?

This is the spud bed taken from the East side, and permanent comfrey bed (still flat) (btw my allotment is in the foreground)

and this is the pea bed in the middle of planting, from the South side.

Looks good supersprout! :)

erm, maybe lettuce on the north cliff? (didn't think of that....)

I am going to have another go with melons this year, on a heaped up bit facing south. Well, I think melons, maybe sweet peppers. Then again there are the aubergines - decisions, decisions !
