Lightbox
« on: March 02, 2006, 10:55:08 »
Like everyone, I like to give some plants an early start, and with growing tomatillo and cape gooseberry this year, I have been told that they like a long season. Hence I made myself a lightbox at work using some old lamps from my kitchen.

Little gem lettuce in the middle, tomatillo behind, and cape gooseberry seedlings at the right. Also some tomato plants hiding in there too, and a tray of celeriac, and another of leeks.

Good stuff, Curry. Yes - ordinary strips do help - & 'Grolux' ones even more. We grew lettuce in the kitchen one year. But I have no idea what it cost us! But the proof of the pudding is in the eating?

Yes Tim, I used my scavenging mentality here, ie the fluorescents were surplus, and I have the warmth and a spare corner at work - my wife would not allow me to have this lightbox at home, we have no space. I wanted to grow some early lettuce to enjoy at easter? The tomatillo plants (5 so far) are like triffids, and already massive.
