Topic: Turf Care

sorry i know this isnt about the allotment but ive just turfed my garden as im about to sell up, I know its a risk with cold weather ahead but can any body advise on
basic care until it takes hold.

Ive searched the forum but everyone seems more interested in how to get rid of it rather than take care of it lol

The biggest risk will be frost and lack of water.

Frost can nip the tops and if hard enough nip the roots as they are not deep enough yet. Frost you can do little about though a layer of fleece over the whole area will help, not sure how big the lawn is though.

The other problem is lack of water, turf has had a good % of the roots removed in the process of lifting it, even now you should water if the weather is mild and dry as it has been here recently.

Also do not walk on it if at all possible.

Thanks Jerry better do a weather check and get the hose out tomorrow if no
frost due, its over 100sq mtrs so not really viable to cover it.

was forecast to rain today here but it barely dribbled lol

its a little risky. and it proabably wont do very much for a while as things dont photosynthesise every much at this time of the year. so i wouldnt be too worried about waterring. but as jerry says, best give it a water every now and again to be on the safe side. 

months time and it will then begin to grow slowly, then you need to keep off it while it beds down. once its pretty sturdy you can begin cutting, cut at about 40mm to start. Should have sold up before you need to go any further :)

lol got to do it now as soon to be ex decided to bulldoze my lovely garden
into a mud patch last summer then hasnt touched it since.

so ive spent 8 weeks filling in the hole that was going to be a pond, levelling of mountains of earth that came from pond hole.

so all you guys be warned lol bulldozers sound fun but can lead to divorce  ;D you have been warned  :P

Well its done... turf looks great

house did too went on the market friday sold saturday

look out leeds you have 5 weeks to batten down the hatches
