Mine was sown in November but the biggest is only about 4cm high - very slow getting going.

Those look great! Ours are doing OK but nothing like as big as that. We have onions, too, that I put in at the same time. Also planted a bed of broad beans and not one came up! I guess something ate them.

hi
WOW very impressive. We put ours in last October/November and its about 5cm which we were pleased with, We just put the rest of it in today. The onions we put in in Oct/Nov haven't shown any sign of growth, is this normal or should we have some sign by now?

Very impressive, indeed.
Mine went in around November and all are sprouting but have only made it to an inch or two in height. I thought they were doing well till I saw yours.

very impressive
the new leaf growth on mine is just about keeping pace with the amount of old growth eaten by bugs and beasties.

Current results from a very unscientific planting...
I planted 6 varieties (+ elephant) at the same time (29th Oct) in seed trays (as beds were not ready.) These were planted out on 8th Jan (during a period of warmer weather.) When planted out, all varieties (except elephant) had almost the same amount of root growth (an unexpected 6-8" - imagine the gentle untangling required! elephant only had about 2") but top growth varied considerably. One variety (Marco) was very tall (a few inches) others were about 1-2" high. Since planted out, all of them have shot up, but Marco is romping home... about 6-8" high (didn't measure, but will do this weekend) others are all visible (not bad considering I planted them deeper than in the seed tray) I am not concerned about the varied growth levels, as it seems to very consistent within each variety. Summary, don't worry about how high your garlic is - it probably depends much on the variety!
Other than Marco, other varieties planted are: Thermidrome, Cristo, Pink Lady, Germidour, A British variety from a local farm shop and 4 elephant cloves.
Autumn Onions (Silver Moon) though are another story, they are literally only just showing, despite planting at the same time as the garlic. Autumn Shallots (Jermor) are about 2" high

Just stuck mine in -in modules, I'm a tad worried about white rot and the less time it's in the soil the better.
