Changing the roller on a lawnmower
« on: November 24, 2005, 23:06:26 »
hi everyone. i was thinking before about why do they put plastic rollers on normal lawnmowers. why not steel?

if i was to get a new roller, could i fit this onto the lawnmower??

i have a bosch quadtrack 32 (new style) if that helps.

Cheers, Adam.

Cost and weight are two reasons Adam, the steel one would need to be plated, and that introduces more cost ...

The plastic roller is more just to stabilise the mower when being handled, than to 'roll' the lawn.

Hope this helps

PS, there is no reason why you should not replace it with a steel one, if it fits ...

Why not paint the steel one with lets say hammerrite to protect it.

You could paint it green then if it rubs of on your lawn you would have a greener lawn :D
