Marinated mustard encrusted beef
Marinating:start 2 days ahead

11/2 Kg(3lb)piece of beef

For dry marinade
25g(1oz) black peppercorns, crushed
15g(1/2oz) salt
5ml(1 tsp) dry mustard powder
5ml(1 tsp) onion salt
5ml(1 tsp) dried thyme
1.25ml(1/4 tsp) ground cloves
1 clove garlic, finely chopped

For wet marinade
45ml(3 tbsp) red wine vinegar
45ml(3 tbsp) sunflower oil
30ml(2 tbsp) tomato puree

Mix dry marinade ingredients, spread all over beef.  Place beef in plastic bag, tie end and leave to marinate in 'fridge for 24 hours.
Next day, mix wet marinade ingredients to a smooth paste,  Unwrap beef, place in a dish.  Brush paste all over on top of the dry marinade.  Marinate in 'fridge for a further 24 hours.  Turn once or twice.

Slice enough potatoes to cover the bottom of the slow cooker, place beef on top of potato, pour over any wet marinade that is left.  Cook for 1 hour on high and 4 hours on low.

Regards

My recipes are what I make up so I don't have measures.

Pork with chick peas in tomato sauce.

I either use cube pork or belly pork cut up about 400g
1 medium onion
carrotts (up to you how many)
tin of plum tomatoes (chopped up)
1tsp tomato puree
chick peas either from a can or dried (if using dried soak overnight) drained.
cumin 1/4tsp
sprinkling of orgeano.
Pinch of sugar
Salt & pepper to taste.

Fry the onion and pork to seal in a pan with a little veg oil.

Put into slow cooker and had the rest of ingredients stir and had a little more water.

Leave to cook and will be ready to serve with cous-cous which takes 5 mins to prepare.

Hope you like if you try

It's supposed to serve 6 with left overs, but as I carve the meat and keep sampling it, (well you won't want to serve up a bad meal would you?) it tends to go for 4.  Bad news is 524 calories per serving.

Normally served with casserole of potatoes & mushrooms and brussels sprouts, if you want the recipes for them just say.

The Americans refer to slow cookers as crockpots so if you pop that into Goggle you'll find loads of recipes!

Well...... I seem to remember it went something like this....
Chicken pieces(skinned), onion, 1/2 smoked salami/chorizzo thingy, herbs, tin of chopped toms, smoked paprika and mushrooms.  And a tin Of ratatouille (sp).  Which must have snuck into the house as I would never have bought such a beast.  Chuck it in and blast it for a few hours.

In the Netherlands they are called crock pots as well and a nice site is
http://members.aol.com/lour 1555/slowcooker.html
We only can get the 3ltr and the 6 ltr pan because not many people are using them.

I cook lambs liver (as well as other dishes) in the slow cooker to make a sort of a soup but more substantial. Don't know quantities, I spend about £3 on the liver and the bacon for 3-4 people.
Soak liver overnight in water, rinse thoroughly, cut into small pieces.
Lightly fry chopped onions, liver, in deep stir-fry pan for about 5 mins.
Add about 1/4 bottle cheap red wine, 2 stock cubes, mix walnut sized piece of butter and cornflour with water, add water, chopped carrots, chopped potato the same size as carrots, plenty of tomatoes, (in winter I use my frozen puree or dried ones or even tinned ones) and peas or beans or whatever small green things I have. Bring to boil.
Put into slow cooker and leave all day. Serve in soup bowls with streaky bacon (crispy) placed on top at the last moment and hot crusty bread.

Lovely!  Thank you everybody, just what we all need in this weather.  ;D

Do hope you are ALL keeping snug and warm.  So far no snow in the south, but is awful COLD outside!   ::)

Shall go find recipe to add.   ;)
