Gallery of my squash seed collection
« on: January 04, 2006, 16:38:35 »
Have sorted my seeds today, and googled to put together a gallery, so when I misplace my labels on the plot, I can recognise what I am growing by the fruit.  There were quite a few I couldn't find pictures for!!  (Thanks for the new seeds Ruud!  :-*)

Just looked at this and realised I've forgotten to put the squash in my casserole.
What a plonker!

Marvelllous pumpkins and squashes EJ  ;D .  I love em.  Checked mine in store this week
and some have gone mouldy and I've had to put on the compost heap  :'(

Still got four whoppers left, 2 crown prince, one massive Marina and a Blue Hubbard
Feel a curry making session coming on
I came, I saw, I composted

Wow Emma-Jane! :o  How many acres do you have available to grow squashes?
I though I'd gone a bit OTT buying just two packets of pumpkin seed  for my new half plot. Might as well cover it with pumpkin plants as I won't have time to dig it all over in the first year and I thought they'd make good groundcover. In a few years time I'll pobably only have one bed allocated for pumpkins.  So it will be fun to experiment this season! I've ordered one packed of mixed squashes and pumpkins from seeds of Italy and a packet of Vif Rouge D'etampes. Has anyone grown this pumpkin? How much space should I allow per plant?

I grew it - this is a googled image....have one I believe still in store, will take a photo.  They are all monsters and would roam as far as they can, you need to control how far they march!

Last year I gave over 2 thirds of my entire allotment to squashes.  This year I am hoping to grow more melons and stagger my plantings so I don't get such huge courgette gluts!  Also, I am going to plonk my courgettes around the 2 plots rather than keep them with the sprawlers as they take up less room, so can fit in when and where I have gaps.  Wonder if a 3rd plot would be out of the question............?

HP, that isn't daughter number one, they are all piccies I lifted from the web to aid with identification come October.  ;D
