I walked down to the allotment today at 2pm and was surprised to see everything had thawed. It's amazing what difference an open sunny site makes. In my back garden, which is mainly shaded, the ground stayed frozen solid all day!

Know what you mean Tim. Our back garden has been solid for days now.
I have spent the last few saturdays laying the hawthorn hedge at our allotment. It is over 15' high and is a major contributor to poor light and sucks up loads of moisture from the soil.
Hopefully it won't need laying for a few years now!!
