Now that's what I call snow... about 6-8" fell overnight and there's plenty more up there by the look of the sky. Snowploughs are out in force this morning, we got our winter tyres fitted just in time.

We filled the bird table up with food this week for the first time this year, and it was crowded within 15 minutes - we can see up to 20 birds queuing up in the branches of the bush behind it; there seems almost to be a pattern, hop from branch '1' to branch '2' and when you get to branch '10' then it's your turn to fly to the bird table!

Now thats the snow I remember as a child Tim, and we are in the South East!
Dragged to school by my Mum on a sledge! Maybe it wasn't as deep as I remember though, as I was only small. ;D
We don't inherit the earth, we only borrow it from our children.

bitterly cold this morning - felt like the coldest yet. Clearish sky, no frost, just massive ice puddles around. We were supposed to have snow at home time yesterday. Didn't. But it did rain so hard for a few minutes that most of the remaining leaves were knocked off the trees. Snow forecast this saturday night. But I doubt it'll settle here.

I remember when I was a kid walking home with my family in the snow and my sister and I were trying to walk in dad's footprints, but of course his stride was much bigger than ours! Thigh-deep snow, even when I was a munchkin was about 100 times deeper than we get now.

PS - I third the please snow on a schoolday. But add in the clause of not on a wednesday or I won't be able to ride!

Lunchtime and my walk home was bitter. This may not be the coldest day on the thermometer, but it is definitely the rawest. Winter has arrived early. Pumpkin soup for tea perhaps.

We seem to have skipped Autumn and gone straight from late summer to mid winter.

Oh and yesterday evening the living room didn't get up beyond 18 deg C. (we don't have a thermostat.) Must remember to turn up the boiler tonight. Still, at least it's only on 5. During the snow BDG (before double glazing) we needed it on 9.

Back in the office after stocking up on seed and nuts for the feeders.  Had to buy a new peanut feeder after squirrel nutkin demolished my old one big time!!

Clear blue sky and the sun's shining in North Cheshire.  Had to take my tie off its so warm in here today unlike outside which is a tad parky but very clear.  Just love days like this!!  Lance
Getting there - just rather slowly!!

thats cheating! ;Dthats 1947 if i'm not mistaken!hahah!

i remember moving into the middle of a wood in '86 and we were told by'the locals' that we didnt get much snow.by the end of the week the 1/4 mile drive was 5'8" in snow....we measured it against a 5'7"mr kitty!
so....
when we moved here in january  and there was a mini power cut we were assured by'the locals' that we never get power cuts.

we are on our 12th.

I'll never forget March '63. It had been fairly mild, and then it hit at the end of winter. I was 9, and my fatehr took me and my sister, who was 18 months younger, sledging in the local park. They had long trousers on, but I didn't have any, and only had shorts. First he started encouraging my sister to sledge down the road, which was on a steep hill, a sheet of ice, and carried quite a lot of traffic. I said no, it wasn't safe, and sure enough just after, a car appeared coming up the hill. Then we got to the park. The snow was halfway up to my knees, and so cold it hurt. So I made a fuss. He took the mickey out of me over that no-stop till we got home, and encouraged my sister to join in. You can see why we were never a close family.

Simple observation this morning, it is warmer than it was last night. Does this mean we can relax again?

Hope so,  I'm off to play golf in a few minutes -not even a frost last night although it often a warm up after freezing weather signals snow on the way.  No fear here though - the south down get it all and we are protected.

Wardy I am with you re. snow. We haven't had any in The Fens and a lot of sunshine this morning. I think my dislike goes back to when we were in haulage. When weather was bad spent my time worrying about husband, son, and drivers  out driving the lorries. Hope  it is a bit warmer for you this morning. What do you think of Baggy?? Still I  hope he has a wonderful time.
