Wierd Cabbage
« on: October 23, 2005, 17:19:29 »
Our organic box has a wierd cabbage in it.  It is concave in shape and all the inner leaves are white with pale green veining - and the leaves are frilly.  When mature the leaves are a mixture of white with green edging - has anybody any idea what sort it is - very attractive - will let you know what it tastes like later.  It is going to accompany my runner bean bean bake.

Don't think that's pak choi

Clanger    My first year and I've bought no veg yet so I'm dead pleased with myself.  You'll have to find out what that leaf is from the supplier if no-one on here knows as I'm dead keen to know what it is  :)

Tasted alright too - stayed crisp and did not go soggy at all - will ring supplier tomorrow.

Sorry flowerofshona - our posts crossed and did not see your reply until wardy's - too late then.

It seems it might be:

Nagoya Garnish White

A sort of Kale.

Generally considered an ornamental cabbage. I think you simply had a misplaced seed. It has always seemed to me that calling these ornamental cabbages or kales limits their potential. These types are fantastically sweet when lightly cooked.
