Ugliest Vegetable hunt launched !!!!!!
« on: October 09, 2005, 21:17:41 »
I have just been looking through ceefax on bbc 2 and saw this.

The nationwide hunt to find England's ugliest vegetable has been launched in retaliation at retailer, increasing insistence on perfect produce.

The national trust aims to uncover the nation's bearded carrots, bent beans and bulbous potatoes in it's year-long quest to proove they are just as tasty

Winners of the competition's seven categories must be able to show how and where they grew there specimens.

Growing your own connects you with nature, Said a trust spokes person.

Well you guys GET GROWING ;D

Just checked out Seeds of Italy:

NEW FOR 2006 Courgette Rugosa of Friuli
This very ugly courgette variety has one of the best flavours, and is virtually the only variety you will find in the local shops and markets in the Veneto region of Italy.

Some of my veg grow very ugly on their own, but this courgette (lumpy yellow) looks like it might give someone a head start next year!

looks like it, just popped into e-seeds (new thread) and saw

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cucurbita pepo 'Yellow Crookneck'
Squash, Specialty Type 'Yellow Crookneck'
75 days. An old-time variety that needs lots of heat to produce yellow, slightly warted, crookneck squash with a fine flavour. The plant is an open vine with good drought tolerance....
