Downhill Racer
« on: October 08, 2005, 23:26:07 »
After today's pumpkin compo (winner was 188lbs - ours, which looked large on the plot, was a mere 65, but it's the taking part that counts.....isn't it?....wait till next year) we had to get it to the car, which luckily was lower down the slope. After a couple of shandies it seemed like a good idea to let it roll down - bad idea, its shape sent it in an arc, accelerating towards some undergrowth and Number 2 son, seven years old, decided to chase it and stop it. Good news, he caught up with it, and got in front to stop it, bad news was that the power to weight ratio was massively in the pumpkins favour and swept him aside like a skittle - he was OK but it was the funniest thing I've seen for a long time. We then decided a photo-shoot at the top of a bigger slope would be cool, and then let it roll again after, whereupon it hit a ridge and split in two! Made delish soup - but still have about 55lbs left, and another 50 pounder on the plot. Feel like there will be a lot of curried/roast/souped pumpkin over the next few weeks......
PS Son OK, just injured pride.
