Apples for wine..?
« on: September 23, 2005, 17:08:00 »
I'm planning on planting around three dwarfish apple trees in the garden, and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for apples for winemaking? We tend to do things like apple/elderberry etc.

Whilst I'm at it, are Golden Delicious any good? (It's a good pollinator for the other trees I'm thinking about - Worcester Pearmain and James Grieve..)

Any suggestions appreciated!

Well basically a mixture of apples in wine would be good. I used to make apple wine with any old aples in the fruit dish or anu windfalls. You can also make crab apple wine :)

Ahh, that's good to know. I'll get an assortment and see what happens, I think. It's a shame Pink Lady apples aren't really an option oop north in Manchester, though!
