I must own up EmmaJane I work on a barter system. My friend grows the Peaches in his Greenhouse I swop for Onions as he doesnt grow them .Same with eggs, pheasants and troutetc. they are exchanged for Chocolate Cakes Lemon Drizzle cakes and so it goes. You soon get the hang of it when you've been an Allotmentier long enough.

:P oooooohh - what a lovely thought.....

Emma - how long have you had your lottie? - think I read somewhere it was about 3 months.....if so, did you not see anybody when the veggies/fruits etc. were at their height (no pun intended here) -  of growing and surely more peeps would have been about.....are the lotties either side of you well looked after?

love the idea of bartering for things....hope my neighbour goes trout fishing or shooting for pheasant.. :P - I love making lemon drizzle cake so have something to exchange! ;)

3 weeks !  Oh how selfish are you!!   ;)  Lucky thing!!  Had probably the best holiday ever in Cyprus years ago, me and 6 mates went to Paphos.  Blissvillecitylimits!

HP - had the lottie for....umm...just about 2 months I think, and I was able to benefit from a free crop of apples from my plot, but that was it.  I never ever see anyone else!  The plot one side is used - reasonably well kept, and run by the site secretary, the plot the other side has only just been taken on, and was a mass of weeds.  Went up there this afternoon, the sun was shining, it was warm and lovely, not a person in site - noone anywhere!  tut.

I did wonder that BB.  I was begining to think I had offended the other lottie holders.....even though I had never met any of them!  Hey ho, maybe in Spring when everyone is there doing their plantings, I mean, they have to come sometimes....don't they..... :-/

I have half a plot and the other half is very well tended - by a man called Norman.  We have never met - and I've had my lottie for several months as well - apparently he plots v. early in the morning, while I go down weekends and some week day afternoons.  He leaves me messages with other plotters and has left me a key to his shed to store my stuff in - what a sweetie.  Time of year doesn't help - come spring and warm weather everyone will be there pottering about, gossiping and drinking tea - that's what our lotties (except Norman!) were like in the glorious early september sunshine!

Nice one magpie!!!  He'll have picked the wrong woman then - my 3 1/5 yr old son was at my mother's house when she started ironing - he pointed at the iron and ironing board and said 'what's that?'.  And he meant it - i gave up ironing when my first child was very young (she's just gone to university) - if it hasn't got lycra in it, or can't be tumble dried - I don't buy it!!!  Perhaps he thinks I'll put curtains up or something!
