Adopting hedgehogs
« on: September 16, 2005, 13:13:02 »
Does anybody know where I can adopt some from?
We have a v big garden that the foxes, bats and now squirrels (who are eating my tomatoes) plus various insects like to visit.
I thought that we might be able to house some hedgehogs too ?
Any ideas?
Jo

Depending upon where you live, the RSPCA Wildlife Hospitals are often on the lookout for semi-protected habitats for not-quite-fully-fit hedgehogs e.g. three legs, one-eyed... and the like. Also, local Wildlife Sanctuaries often need similar habitats for their own rehabilitated (but not 100%) hedgehogs.

I think they like to have a chat with you, and come out and see the proposed release site to see how it measures up...

Give them a ring?

This site is very good:  http://www.thehedgehog.co.uk/index.htm

They only re-house hedgehogs in their immediate area, but they can give you details of other hedgehog rescue places in your area.  There is a lot of advice on the site about how to care for hedgehogs.
